What to visit in Isère?

The landscapes are very diversified: lakes, caves (including the Choranche caves), forests, marshes, ponds, peat bogs, and others. There are many lakes that promise beautiful walks, such as Paladru Lake, Monteynard Lake (with its impressive Himalayan footbridges) or Sautet Lake.
The unusual natural sites, such as the Pierre Percée, the 3 pucelles which offer a panoramic view of Grenoble are absolutely worth seeing.
Isère also has 3 natural parks. The Ecrins national park, which is home to about a hundred Royal Eagles, the Vercors regional park and the Chartreuse regional park. These 3 parks offer beautiful hikes and walks all year round.
You can also take the funicular of St Hilaire (old tourist railways) or the little train of the Mûre, and practice zip lines above the dam of Sautet!
We also advise you to visit the 2 Alpes ice cave and its sculptures and the 100 hectare Domaine de Vizille.
In winter, the Isère also seduces a lot of people with its famous ski resorts, notably the one of the Alpes d'Huez or the one of Chamrousse.
Isère is also a department of culture and history, punctuated by monuments to visit and cities of character.
Notre Dame de Salette is an exceptional place at an altitude of 1800 metres and is an important pilgrimage site. The abbey of Saint Antoine, the fort of La Bastide, the Casamaures are great buildings not to be missed in Isère. The city of Vienne is to be seen and seen again with the largest market in my region every Saturday morning, its Saint-Maurice cathedral or its ancient theatre.
Grenoble, the capital of Isère, is a young and dynamic city. Its Notre Dame cathedral or its city garden are also a must-see!

When to go to Isère?

Depending on the reason why you're going there, you'll choose different periods of the year to plan your trip. If you plan on skiing, then you should choose the months from December until February. Keep in mind that you should check how much snow there is during any given month so as to go there at the best moment. On the other hand, if you plan on sightseeing when it's warmer, then you should definetly choose the months from June to August.
