What to visit in the department of Jura?

The Haut-Jura Regional Park includes a total of more than a hundred municipalities. The Jura forests are numerous and are synonymous with beautiful walks, such as the Forêt du Massacre, the Forêt de Chaux or the Forêt de la Joux. The Jura is also a skiers' paradise, with its 1000 km of cross-country skiing trails, such as at the Les Rousses resort or the Hautes-Combes ski area. The Jura also has many water points, including lakes and waterfalls. The small glacial lake of Bonlieu, the lake of Abbey or the lake of Antre are ideal for walks and rest.
The waterfalls in Les Hérissons (notably the cascade of l'Eventail) are worth a look, like the waterfalls of Flumen or Brillaude.
The caves of Baumes les Messieurs (and its underground lake), the cave of Planches-Près-d'Arbois and the cave of Saint Anne are worth visiting.
The Jura also has some beautiful castles, such as Présilly or Château des Pins (both dating from the 13th century), as well as the private castle of Arlay, a listed historical monument and its 8 hectare park.
The city of Lons-le-Saunier, the capital of the Jura, is particularly pleasant for strolls, with its commercial streets or arcades; or with its squares of the Comédie or the Place de la Liberté. Lons-Le-Saunier is famous for its Lédonia thermal baths and its 7 hectare park. Historical monuments are also important, such as the city theatre, Saint-Désiré church or the church of Les Cordeliers. Finally, we advise you to visit the museum of the Laughing Cow, which is amazing and regularly offers exhibitions.
The Jura also has 2 beautiful villages to visit.
Baume-Les-Messieurs offers beautiful walks and hikes, especially in its Cirque des Baumes or around its cave des Baumes. The imperial abbey of the 8th century is also a key visit to the village.
The perched village of Château-Chalon, specialising in yellow wines, is worth seeing, particularly for its church, its medieval tower and its cheese dairy museum.
Finally, lovers of history and curiosity will appreciate the Loulle site, on which you can find dinosaur footprints; as well as the sanctuary of Sequanes dating from approximately the 2nd Century.
