How to find a campsite in the department of Nord?

The department of Nord is probably the region of France that was most marked by the two world wars. That being said, you know there's going to be more than enough places for you to visit there. Depending on your requirements and your needs, HomeCamper has various hosts in store for you that are going to be able to make you enjoy your stay like never before. What to visit in the department of Nord?

To kick things off on a historical note, the site of Fort de Leveau or the Fromelles cemetery bear witness to the First World War. The Second World War also left its mark, and you'll learn about that by visiting the Musée de la Résistance in Bondues, the Ascq memorial or the site of the massacre of the Plaine aux bois d'Esquelbecq.
Visiting the Nord department is above all a visit to its many cities of art and history. Lille, and in particular its old town, is a city full of charm, with beautiful facades. Its Grand Place promises beautiful walks in the heart of the city. Its 2 mad houses (cultural establishments of a new kind), as well as its 104-metre high belfry and its Vauban citadel are absolutely worth a visit. The city of Cambrai, also a city of arts and history, is just as pleasant with its Lac des Cygnes, its tower of the Arquets or its marina.
The manufacture of Flanders in Roubaix unveils the mysteries of the textile industry and its machines, which come to life before the eyes of its visitors. Roubaix also contains other exceptional places, such as the most beautiful swimming pool in France, now a museum, its Saint-Martin church and the former cotton factory in Motte Bossut. The Barbieux park and its 35 hectares promise walks and rest.
Between Lille and Dunkirk is Esquelbecq, a pretty city with Flemish architecture. Its castle, although not open to the public, is to be admired; and the 75 steps of the bell tower of its church can be climbed!
The fortified cities in the north have the coast, including the city of Dunkirk, whose fortifications can be visited along the river.
The North also represents the Scarpe-Escaut regional nature park and the Avesnois regional park, which promise beautiful walks.
The Merchant's Dune Nature Reserve offers a preserved heritage, as does the Cinq Tailles ornithological site for the ornithology enthusiasts.
The park of Liessies Abbey offers 48 hectares of greenery, ideal for outdoor walks!
The seaside resort of the Dunes de Flandre is ideal for water sports, beach walks or even hours of idleness, as it offers 15km of fine sand.
The Nord department also has an undeniable cultural heritage, which is classified as a UNESCO intangible heritage with its "Géants"! The Géants are very tall characters who usually parade during festivals such as carnival or medieval festivals. Not to be missed!
Finally, we also advise you to discover the mining basin of Nord Pas de Calais, classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

When to go to the department of Nord?

Home to an oceanic climate and located along the sea, abundant rainfall is the main weather throughout the year. That is why we advise you to choose the months of July and August for your stay, as there's less rain and the temperatures are more suitable for sightseeing!
