What to visit in the department of Val-d'Oise?

The Oise Regional Nature Park and the French Vexin Regional Park (also in the Yvelines) promise preserved landscapes, once so appreciated by impressionist painters. These landscapes are to be observed during many hikes, as there are more than 800 km of trails and more than 110 km of cycle paths that run through the Vexin regional park.
The so-called "jardins remarquables" (litteraly "remarkable gardens") are also not to be missed, in particular the gardens of the Château d'Ambleville or the Country Garden located in Grisy-les-Plâtres.
The Val d'Oise is also a historical heritage, as evidenced by the Château d'Ecouen, the Château de la Roche Guyon and the Château de Méry-sur-Oise. Royaumont Abbey is located in Asnières sur Oise, and also has a "remarkable" garden. This abbey is located in the middle of forests and water bodies. From the kitchens to the small rock cave, this abbey will surprise you, as it is particularly well preserved. The Val d'Oise was also a department frequented by impressionist painters, including the famous Van Gogh. In Auvers-sur-Oise, about thirty kilometres from Paris, the Auberge Ravoux, where the painter had stayed, is not to be missed. Still following the footsteps of the Impressionists, we recommend that you stop by Daubigny's workshop. Finally, the Château d'Auvers, built in 1980, pays tribute to the greatest impressionist artists.
The city of Cergy-Pontoise is also one of the highlights of the Val d'Oise, particularly for its underground tunnels (old quarries) to visit, a real treasure of the city's heritage! Finally, Isle Adam is worth a visit, particularly pleasant. Its river beach, a beach of fine sand, is the most important in France. There are many activities: from a miniature golf course, to a tennis court, or several water slides. The vast Isle Adam forest also promises beautiful walks. The city's covered market, its Chinese pavilion and its many footbridges are also worth seeing!
