What to visit in Montpellier?

You will undoubtedly appreciate Montpellier's historic center called "l'Ecusson", dating from the Middle Ages. Still in the heart of the city, you will be able to discover the Tower of Babotte, which was an astronomical observatory, the Cathedral of Saint-Pierre with its unique porch and the remains of the adjacent cloister, the Saint-Clément aqueduct in the Arceaux district, the Arc de Triomphe which precedes the entrance to the pleasant Gardens of Peyrou, Place Saint-Roch and its church surrounded by small restaurant terraces, the famous Place de la Comédie and its fountain topped by the Three Graces, rue Foch and its beautiful Haussmann-style buildings, where the former Palais de Justice is located!
But you will see many other interesting sites as you stroll through the shady alleys with their wide cobblestone streets. There are also many cultural events throughout the year and we will mention just a few: the Comédie du Livre at the end of May, the Festival Montpellier Danse devoted to contemporary dance in July, the Internationales de Guitare in October, the Estivales every Friday from late June to early September. Museums and theatres will certainly satisfy your intellectual curiosity, and you will soon understand the enthusiasm of travellers for this city "where the sun never sets"!
