France is famous for its gastronomy and its wine. Let yourself be surprised by this country rich with its culture and natural heritage. The HomeCamper hosts will be happy to make you taste some local products and introduce you to local activities.

What can I visit in France?

You can do a lot of activities in France thanks to its rich culture and history. Depending on the time of your visit and the region you can try different activities. First, you can start by a visit of Paris: the Montmartre area or the Trocadéro with the Eiffel Tower. If you are longing for a peaceful place, come and relax in the Alps. With a famous road called “La route des Grandes Alpes”, you will discover a majestic mountain range. At the end of this road, you will reach the Mediterranean coast. You will have the choice between some famous seaside resorts like Nice and its famous “Promenade des Anglais”, Cannes and its world-known film festival or Marseille and its funny accent. If you prefer tasting some French specialities between two surfing sessions, discover the Pays Basque with Biarritz and Saint-Jean-De-Luz. Have a bite at the “gâteau basque” and one of the local goat cheeses. You will also find some sweet specialties in Britanny where you can give in to temptation with some traditional Breton pancakes while listening to legends about the Korigans (little evil Breton characters) or the true stories of King Arthur and Merlin in the Broceliande Forest. If these stories scare you, come and discover Normandy and the “falaises d’Étretat”. If you feel dizzy, go to the unavoidable “Mont-Saint-Michel”or to the picturesque village of Giverny. The “Haut-de-France” region can also seduce you. Come and stroll along the beach of the Baie de Somme and discover its unique fauna and flora. The north of France is famous for its traditional dishes. But you can also visit a lot of castles like Chantilly castle or cathedrals and charming villages like Senlis cathedral or the town of Deauville, famous for its American film festival. The East of France can surprise you by its diversity. With the memory places (like Verdun or “la ligne Maginot”), its wine road in Alsace and its many sites listed among the UNESCO world heritage sites (“La place Stanislas” in Nancy or “La Grande Île” which is the old district of Strasbourg and the cathedral “Notre- Dame“ of Reims), the East of France is rich.

When can I discover France in my van?

The HomeCamper hosts in France will welcome you all year around. However, depending on the time of the year, some regions are to be preferred. It’s better to visit the French coast in Spring or Summer time. While you can go to the French mountains any time of the year; you can go trekking in summer or spring time and skiing in winter time. There is also a lot of festivals all year long. For example in February there are some Carnivals (like in Nice), in June the “24H du Mans”. In September the traditional “braderie de Lille” in the North of France.
