The setting

Mediterranean-atlantic woods on a hill, that slopes to the confluence of two rivers once managed by the cistercians monks of Alcobaça Abbey. With 6 terraces divided in 12 plots, prepared, in primal way, to host travelers tents.

The spots

The 6 terraces with a deep perspective over the town and over the camps that extends till the mountains at East, are crossed by a stairway that divides each terrace in 2 plots prepared to host tents in a primal regime.
The 12 plots have independentes dry sanitaries; are shaded by several pine, chestnut, hazelnut, arbutus, oak and cork oaks trees; and have dimensions that goes from 3 x 20 to 4,5 x 25 [m], which means that it´s possible to accommodate more than one tent in each plot... a vantage to groups!
At the bottom of the tents terraces exists a comun terrace with: solar shower cabins; a laundry área with a drying rack; and a cooking-dining área with a barbecue and picnic tables.

The activities

At Mata da Milheirinha the people host on the primal bivouac, can participate in several activities related to: wildland exploration; agroforestry gardening; and settlement construction - during this summer all efforts are concentrated on the keepers shelter's construction - guests envolvement is welcome!
Since the land it´s part of the green zone of protection of a town where once a cistercian abbey flourished, the guests hosted on Mata da Milheirinha can visit its ancient Monastery with its church, that integrates the longest nave of europe; its serene cloisters; the monk's austere living areas; and its ingenious hydraulic system.
Furthermore, Alcobaça, it´s located about 12 km from the beach (Nazaré) and from the mountains (Serra dos Candeeiros) so, hiking; fishing;; climbing; surfing, are some examples of a lot of outdoors activities than can be done in the surrounding area.

A AWD machine can be provide to help carrying heavy luggages if necessary.

  • Has been a very relaxing time on top of the hill. Nazaré and the beautiful praia do norte is also easy to reach. Julio and Joana, you are inspiring people. Thanks for all the fish and for have shown us Alcobaça.
    Obrigado!

  • We had the best time staying here, our hosts were amazingly welcoming and helpful throughout our stay. Would 100% recommend this place, it is an eco camp and has a truly beautiful view. It is a picturesque space but you do need a 4 wheel drive to get to the top of the property where you will camp, but it's not a problem if you don't have one as the hosts are happy to help you ferry camping gear up in their car. Showers and toilets are basic bush amenities but are fairly private. There is a really communal feel to this place and we had a really great time and got lots of fantastic tips from our hosts for the rest of our travels in Portugal.
