Description

Hello !
We're delighted to welcome you just outside Marseille!
Enjoy the peace and quiet of the countryside just outside the city!

The setting

Enjoy a very quiet environment, with the sound of cicadas during the day and frogs in the evening!
Our neighborhood is located on the outskirts of Marseille, with lots of trees, but beware of fires! We're on an east-west hillside.
We're in a valley, with no way out other than up the hill. "The avenue de la Grand Gorge is quite narrow, but in many places we can pass each other. This disadvantage is an advantage for peace and quiet.
We're surrounded by hills, so we have plenty of trees.

The spots

We're in a valley, so the pitches are on terraces, surrounded by vegetation that's quite dry at this time of year, facing east-west.
Access is easy and independent.
The pitches are located on either side of a staircase (70 steps) that takes you up to a beautiful viewpoint.
Some pitches are in the shade, others are sunnier, and you'll be on the ground because we have to rake the dry grass to avoid fire hazards.
No tents with a footprint of more than 4m by 6m.

The sanitary facilities

Independent dry toilets X per 2.
The solar-powered showers are destroyed too quickly, so we're replacing them with room-temperature showers. Those who appreciate a return to nature - and there are many of them - can shower using the system provided by my husband.
A sink is available on the restanque of the sanitary block.
The water is drinkable.
When you leave the house, you can dispose of cardboard, plastic and cans in the yellow garbage can, and the rest in the black garbage can. As for bottles, a crate will be at your disposal on our terrace and my husband will take them to the container, so please be nice and respect all that. For the dry toilets, please be generous with the sawdust.
ARRIVAL TIMETABLE: 5pm to 8pm. DEPARTURE TIMETABLE: END OF MORNING.
There's a sink with drinking water on the restanque, to which the shower hose is connected.

The amenities

You can connect to WIFI.
An electric barbecue is at your disposal (except if windy and on concrete slab only) as well as a table with benches seating 8 will be accessible to you.
A multiple socket is at your disposal to charge your mobiles or other items, in the refrigerator room, but under your supervision please.
The kitchen is equipped with oven, microwave, electric hob and refrigerator.
The kitchen facilities are basic, but cooking appliances are available. If you need anything, just ask.
A drum of electrical sockets is available, but please supervise.
An extension cord can be lent individually or authorized for a fee of 2 euros per day.

The activities

We're just outside Marseille!
The Vieux Port, the Basilique Notre Dame de la Garde... Lots to see and do!
The Le Corbusier building, the mucem with Fort St Jean?
The little ports of Goudes, Callelongue, Madrague Monredon, the Palais du Pharo, the Frioul islands, the calanques.etc....
In town, St Victor's Abbey, dating from the 5th century.
The Panier district, Marseille's oldest and most typical, the Palais du Pharo, with its magnificent view.
Diving and sailing clubs await you.
Cassis and its magnificent calanques, which you can visit on foot or by shuttle boat, hiking along the sea to reach several calanques from the small port of Callelongue to the calanques of Marseilleveyre and Podestat....there's no shortage of activities!

Other things

We are 5 minutes from all amenities.
We live with two very friendly dogs (mother and daughter). I would ask you not to feed them if you don't want to be bothered, and to close your tents when you leave for the day. If you have a small rubbish bag before you leave, please put it up high. Thank you.
I repeat my request to be careful of fire hazards! And don't throw your papers or cigarette butts on the site. When you leave the house on the left, there's a black garbage can where you can throw your leftovers. Thank you
Please clean your appliances when you use them, as there is no cleaning lady. DON'T THROW YOUR RUBBISH IN CORNERS OR ON THE FLOOR, IT'S VERY DISRESPECTFUL. IF YOU NEED TO? ASK ME FOR A GARBAGE BAG AND HANG IT IN THE AIR TO PREVENT DOGS AND CATS FROM TEARING IT UP, NOT TO MENTION THE WIND.

Rules

We are not a campsite, but we offer our land as an alternative to wilderness camping, so comfort is a minimum (dry toilets, cold water, electricity for fridge and laptops).
We provide a microwave, an electric stove and a fridge-freezer.
I ask you to close the freezer door tightly, to remove out-of-date products and when you leave, to let us know what you leave in the fridge, so that we can check that the products don't end up rotting. I'd rather not spend my time cleaning this kitchen area every day, as everyone can be more careful. On the other hand, this is not a garbage room. EVERYONE HAS TO MANAGE THEIR OWN WASTE. If necessary, I'll give you a garbage bag. Thank you
We only welcome people who respect our premises!
This is a non-smoking area (the region is very prone to fires).
Arrivals are from 5 pm to 8 pm.
NO CHILDREN UNDER 8 YEARS OF AGE: somewhat rough terrain (stairs).
Campers must dispose of their garbage in the black garbage can in the designated area.

For those coming by train, at the station, take the metro 2 to the Dromel terminus and from there, take the 46S bus until 6pm and from 6pm to 8:50pm, the 24 to the Panouse stop. For the 46S, go to the terminus. It's a 5-minute walk.
From 9 p.m. to 1 a.m., take the 518 bus to the La Panouse stop. Then walk up Avenue de la Panouse, which is opposite the bus stop. Avenue de la Grand Gorge is the first on the right, and since it's a dead-end street, it's easy to get there.
If the GPS doesn't recognize the square, ask for avenue de la Grand Gorge, and the square is right there.

Extras

Tent ready

1 two-person tent (€3 per night) and 2 floor mats (€1 per night).

Situation
  • We spent a very pleasant night at this campsite in Marseille. It is located in a beautiful area with a charming garden. The owners are very friendly and were also very helpful. Régine's husband was even kind enough to drive us to the metro when we were late for the bus. We really enjoyed our stay here and would highly recommend it!

  • Super welcoming couple, available and accommodating!
They welcomed me in November for my 2-day hike.
I had everything I needed and more :)

  • On the edge of the calanques, beautiful setting. Good value for money. Dry toilets and paper provided. Regular bus service to city center.
Regine and her husband were very helpful and gave us all the information we needed.

  • A great experience, an ideal setting to rediscover deep roots in harmony with nature. What better way to recharge your batteries.
    Many thanks Régine and Bernard.

  • We had to make an emergency reservation and the response was prompt. Despite a brief welcome, it remained warm. Beautiful setting, calm and causy. The sanitary facilities are basic but clean. The water was cold but given the heat, that was appreciable. We'll be back for longer.

  • It's the only "campsite" in Marseille, and we were able to reach the calanques quite easily by bus.
Comfort, on the other hand, is rudimentary: cold shower with hose, dry toilets, kitchenette in a storeroom, sandy ground. For the price of a normal, comfortable campsite...

  • The host was very welcoming, took care to accompany us on our arrival and gave us some very good advice on visiting Marseille. That said, the state of the bathroom and shower facilities is limited and lacks hygiene. The same goes for the kitchen and dining area, which are gregarious and would need real improvements to qualify as such. The tent site is spotless, and the companion dogs are extremely friendly!

  • We booked for 6 nights.
Hygiene was not present so we left before.
The owners are very friendly and made us feel very welcome.
On the other hand, the site where we pitched our tent was very small, on a slope and we couldn't put our sardines in because of the stones.
The sanitary facilities were a disaster, and it's a shame we couldn't take photos. The dry toilets were damaged by water or urine, and it's better not to know.
There are even little white mushrooms growing on them. The shower is in the toilet, so the smell isn't great, the water is cold because it's the garden hose, and the room used as a shower is unsanitary, with a blocked drain...

We came by train, so we took public transport from Marseille. It's very complicated, there's a bus that gets close to the place (10min walk) but it stops at 6pm, otherwise it's another 30min walk, it's right on the coast, so it's very difficult with luggage.
As written on the advert "at the gateway to Marseille", it's better to specify by car, as it's not feasible by public transport, especially if you plan to go out in the evening.
As for the "kitchen", it's a building full of junk, with a nauseating smell. Some garbage left by other campers, the fridges are unusable because of the mess inside.
Certainly it comes from other campers but nothing is washed as it goes along to leave the place clean.

Expensive for what it is we are very disappointed.

  • Beautiful property, ideally located in Marseille in a quiet neighborhood. The best way to get there is by car, but if you opt for public transport, the nearest bus is 10 minutes away.

As for the campsite, we had a pleasant stay, but the facilities and communal areas leave a lot to be desired. In fact, there is no lighting at all on the site, and this is particularly lacking in the shower/toilet and kitchen areas. There are also several pipes/cables cluttering up the stairway. As far as the kitchen is concerned, we think that a few improvements would be enough to justify the price (utensils, cutlery/dishes, possibly a space for cooking).

Apart from that, the view was sublime. Bernard made us feel very welcome and was on hand to advise us on the region and its activities. Their dogs were also adorable.

  • An unforgettable stay! A beautiful property, charming hosts! Bernard and Régine were very welcoming. I can only recommend this first experience for myself and my family. We'll be back

  • Rustic but really nice.
Very good welcome from Régine. ☺️
I'll be back with pleasure ????

  • We felt very welcome and at ease! Thank you very much for this and best regards to all ???? ????

  • Superb welcome! Sublime place ! What a pity I couldn't enjoy it anymore.
There's plenty to spend a fantastic vacation in the shade of the trees and the hostess is lovely. I recommend

  • It was a really nice place. I stayed there for 1 week and was better than I expected. Régine was very welcoming and charm, and about the place for me the best thing was that is very close to the city centre.

  • charming hosts, nice location. in marseille.... but I must admit, camping conditions far too rootsy for moi☺️.

  • We really enjoyed our stay. The house is in the hills above Marseille and the views are superb. The car helps to get there. The facilities are certainly rustic, but they were a nice change of scenery and sufficient for our needs. We won't hesitate to come back!

  • Such lovely, caring hosts, in a corner of paradise and a rare location in Marseille. I recommend this couple, who are doing our region a world of good!

  • Very warm welcome. Peaceful setting.

  • It was a good stay! It’s very close to the city and the beach, the perfect (and as far as I know) only place to visit Marseille on a budget!

  • Superbe !

  • Our stay with Régine and Bernard (and Umi and One the adorable dogs) was very pleasant. The hosts were very friendly, available and accommodating, giving us tips for our visits and allowing us to stay an extra night.
The site is well located, close enough to transport links to get around Marseille, but above all in a very quiet spot with a magnificent view.
The cold shower, dry toilets and kitchen are functional and practical.
We'll be delighted to come back and recommend this home camping site to our friends and family!

  • Probably the best place to pitch a tent in Marseille to enjoy nature and the city.
    Thanks to Régine and Bernard.

  • Our stay in the suburb of Marseille, where you feel like you are living in the country, was great, mainly thanks to the hosts and the magnificent garden, where we chose the place for the tent. Just be careful of only cold showers and dusty surfaces (without any grass). It didn't bother us, but I can imagine that it could be a problem (with small children, for example). We would love to come back, it's a great location for exploring Marseille, Cassis and the surrounding areas. Jan & children

  • Welcome as described, the countryside at the gateway to the city. Strictly basic comfort, sufficient for low-cost overnight stays.
The sanitary facilities, the stairs and the building site can be surprising... A little experience with a taste of adventure with children...!!!!!

  • I recommend it 100%!

  • A privileged location in the heart of nature.
We enjoyed the calm and beauty of the setting, with views of the mountains and the town in the distance. The camping pitches are arranged in separate terraces, which is very pleasant for peace and quiet. The fully-equipped kitchen is functional, as are the sanitary facilities (dry toilets and cold shower). A great experience in the heart of nature, yet within easy reach of the city center and the calanques by bus.

  • The place would be great, especially as Marseille no longer has a campsite.
But it's too unkempt for me to feel comfortable.

  • A very warm welcome to this island of greenery in Marseilles.
The sanitary facilities are very clean.
Only one drawback: lots of cigarette butts littering the ground.

  • We had a good stay.
    Good welcome.
Beautiful view from the top of the terraces.
    Quiet location.
Shame that we were with other people who left their garbage and clothes lying around, making the communal area quite dirty.

  • We are fortunate to have been able to experience Marseille through Régine and Bernard's magnificent campsite. The site is splendid and a great place to meet all kinds of people. Thank you a thousand times over for your warm welcome, we lacked nothing!

  • A very warm welcome and a beautiful view from the heights of Marseille. The place is very well equipped and the hosts are very friendly. I can't recommend them highly enough!

  • We had a really lovely time here, the hosts were welcoming and the land is gorgeous. There's a wonderful view of Marseille and we even saw 14th of July fireworks!

  • The hosts gave us a warm welcome and Régine was very kind.
However, it's a shame that the site is not well maintained by the campers. It makes the stay less pleasant than it could be.

  • We had a very nice stay at Regine’s place! A ideal base camp for a visit to Marseille. We enjoyed the roof terrace with a view on the city very much!

  • Thanks to Régine and Bernard for their dedication to keeping this place alive, "the only campsite in Marseille". I don't know what more we can expect from them.

  • very good stay with a very nice and human couple I highly recommend

  • Very good stay, I recommend

  • A small place, perfect to spend time in a quiet place between the city of Marseille and the Calanques with very nice hosts! Thank you very much for a great start of the vacations!

  • Well I leave a message 6 months after my stay (laughs) but I promised myself to leave a comment...so I want to specify that the link between home Camper and this place works perfectly...I was welcomed very nicely by Bernard and Régine who knew how to put me at ease in all simplicity...the place is very interesting, perched on the heights of Marseille, on the slopes in direct contact with the scrubland, they even proposed me several places to pitch my tent...the other campers were very discreet but not indifferent...sanitary question nothing to say...I had read some downsides about it, I found it very nice...cold water never killed anyone especially in September... Régine gave me some tips on the walks to do around Marseille while Bernard, always listening, a former engineer, did not hesitate to share his life experience in an objective way...I highly recommend

  • Super !

  • Very good reception (I arrived late).
    The place is nice

  • My friend and I stayed there for 7 days and were delighted! The hosts are very nice and welcoming, and their land is very well placed at the top of the quiet neighborhood of La Panouse. At the top of the garden, there is a superb view of Marseille.
The location is a very good compromise between nature and city, the area is rather well served by transport for access to both the center of Marseille and the Calanques park.
We strongly recommend this place to all hikers who want to visit Marseille and its surroundings for a few days in a quiet and natural environment.

  • Very nice place, toilet and shower very rustic

  • Very good reception, very good stay

  • very good stay, wonderful skill, recommended.

  • Ideal location at the door of the center, pleasant and discreet hosts. The only weak point is the cold shower ???? but when it is very hot you get used to it.

  • Welcoming hosts, peaceful setting very natural but it is useful to inform that the site is all in stone stairs relatively high. Plan on sustained physical exercise to set up camp. Crossing pipes in suspension. Risky environment for children. For the older ones, marseille, superb view and sport ;-)

  • Régine and Bernard are very friendly hosts who are easy to reach.20 minutes from the calanques, ideal to leave the car and explore by bus/foot.I recommend.

  • Small peaceful weekend in the heart of the mountains in a very nice house. The only drawbacks are: no hot water for the shower, and difficult to plant the sardines because the ground is full of stones...

Otherwise regine and her husband are very nice thank you for your welcome.
    See you soon

  • We arrived very late, for the owners it was not a problem, the atmosphere and the district were very nice, the communication with the hosts was very easy. On the other hand, the toilets and the shower were always a little wet. Except that, the stay was very nice. Thanks
