Description

We have two "garden terraces" (Bancales) in front of the house where there are olives, apricots, oranges, and other fruit trees. In between the two "bancales," we grow our vegetable garden which does not supply all the food we need but gives us some satisfaction. From your tent you will enjoy an amazing view on the Andarax river valley and the the village named Gador. You can decide if you want to place your tent on the first or the second garden terrace for more privacy. The Olive trees will grant you enough shadow.

The setting

Rioja is a small village and we live in its outskirts. Privacy is granted since the street leads only to our house therefore, no traffic noise or unwelcomed visitors. The view and the night sky are the perfect cinema to enjoy sometime in the nature.

The spots

You can settle down your tent under the shadow of our olive trees and the other fruit trees. We have flattened some areas for you to be comfortable setting up your tent and removed the vegetation. We have kept the other areas of the land with wild grass to keep the temperature of the ground lower and to increase the biodiversity of plants and insects to protect our vegetable garden. The property is composed of three terraces. On the first terrace, there is our house with a nice yard with dining tables and some vegetable and spicy plants. The second terrace, which is one level down is already more private and to be closer to the house you can place your tent there, otherwise, for even more privacy there is the third terrace with olive trees. However, a one-minute walk from the second terrace will get you to the house. Privacy is granted by the change in altitude.

The sanitary facilities

We are planning to build a compost toilet and an outside kitchen and shower. If needed we have hot water but considering the temperatures in the area is not necessary. Our dream would be to install thermo and photovoltaic panels to be energy independent. For now you will use the traditional toilet and shower of the house. a 10 minute walk from the house will bring you to a bus station with a direct connection to Almeria.

The amenities

We have wifi close to the house. Traditional kitchen with gas oven but no microwave or kettle. We have all you need to prepare an amazing meal.

The activities

My favorite activity is to go hiking in the mountain surrounding the house and to walk to the next village (Gador) by crossing the river Andarax. Close to Rioja, there are many hiking trails and the Tabernas desert. One bus or the train in Gador can bring you to Almeria to enjoy the seaside. The restaurant "Los Pireneos" offers amazing fresh fish tapas for a ridiculous price (2,50 euros for a beer/alcoholic drink and a
a very generous portion of fish or meat, let´s say vegetarian or vegan meals are still not well accepted in a small village even if we would like). Rioja and Gador are famous for the production of oranges and for the production of "roscos" from the family business "Pichote" our neighbours.

Rules

Smoking outside the house is allowed, the access to the house with a car is easy if you have experience otherwise would be better to leave the car in the parking which is 300 meters away from the house. We believe the general rules of respect, communication and understanding which should be part of our common education without imposing strict rules.

Possibility of breakfast (€3 / person)

We love cooking and enjoying new recipes. We cook vegetarian or vegan. Depending on the season we can have fruits and vegetables from the garden. If you would like to share a meal with us let us know in advance :)

  • My tent between the olive trees and orange trees, reading in a hammock while being distracted by the vistas, spotting a kameleon; Mar’s place is a paradise.

    Mar and her friends are really kind and open minded. It was interesting to talk about our different backgrounds. I was invited for a beer (and some more) and we played music in the evening. Uhm now, they did, and I did my best to participate ;).

  • Our stay in the house of Marco and Mar was really good! They helped us to carry our stuff when we arrived, the place matches perfectly the given description and we had the opportunity to share a few beers which was super nice! We could use without any problem the kitchen and the bathroom. Everything was perfect!
