Description

ATTENTION: We won't be present on the site this year as the activity we carry out takes up a lot of our time.
The 200-liter solar shower tank will be filled every Wednesday (or contact me by phone if it's empty beforehand to see when I can come and fill it). There's also a 1000-liter water tank available on the site.

On a 6000m2 plot, quiet but not shaded despite a few young trees, 150m from the road, you'll have free access to about 2000m2, three pitches are available (+ another small one that will only be used from time to time for emergency purposes).
If you don't find any availability, don't hesitate to send me a message to check.

The setting

Situated in the heart of nature, at the end of a 250m dirt track (not flat, but passable), there are some trees, but they are still too young to benefit from their shade.
The nearest houses are 150m away.
There's a small, shallow pond with water lilies (approx. 1.50 m), which may run dry over the summer. Please take care with children who cannot swim.

A road passes about 150m from the site, which is quite far, but depending on the wind direction, some cars can be heard in the distance when driving fast.

You have free access to a large part of the site, which is clean. On another part of the site, which is not open to the public (except on the path), there are a few bazaars, but they are not very visible.

The spots

THREE PITCHES ARE AVAILABLE:
- Pitch N°2 measures 80m2 (approx.), with space for a van/caravan and a few tents.
- Pitch N°1 80m2 (9m x9m). It can easily accommodate two vans/caravans or several tents, and is therefore primarily reserved for groups of several people/vehicles.
- Pitch N°3 50m2 (approx.). You can easily park a van or caravan here, but it's not suitable for tents because the ground is not flat (small holes or bumps).
I couldn't find an option on home-camper to manage reservations by pitch (you can only choose the number of people) and having activated the automatic reservation for 12 people (about 4 people per pitch), I hope you won't end up with 12 single people, each with a converted van, as this could cause space problems! XD

The sanitary facilities

Optional SOLAR SHOWER (not chargeable but available if I have time to come and fill the tank if it's empty):
- A 200L solar shower is available on a shared-access basis. (The use of biodegradable products is preferred but not obligatory; organic products will be available at cost if you wish).

DRY TOILETS (self-managed):
- The Biblitoilettes are a combination of a dry toilet (odorless) and a library operating on the principle of a book box (you don't have to leave books there). At the end of your stay, if you haven't finished your reading, you can take the book home to finish it.
- The dry toilets are self-managed (I won't have time this summer to take care of them all the time), so a sheet will be available to tell you how.

The amenities

ELECTRICITY:
- There is no electricity on site.

WATER:
- There is no water on the plot, a 1000-liter tank is present (if it is not empty when you come and especially if I have time to fill it), this water is not drinkable but perfectly usable for showering, brushing teeth or other.

INTERNET :
- there's no wifi on the site, but 4G is fine (3 bars with Bouygues and 1 to 2 bars with Free).

EQUIPMENT:
- Folding tables and garden chairs are available, as is a barbecue that still stands (with a wire brush for the grill).

CAMP FIRE:
- A campfire area is available to everyone, equipped for grilling. You'll be able to make or listen to music as long as it doesn't disturb other users of the site. However, you'll need to bring some wood to feed it (there are lots of trees all around and you'll certainly find some dead wood).

BIKES :
- A member of my family offers bike hire at preferential rates (€10 for the first day, €5 for subsequent days or €35 for the week). VTC city bikes (Col de signe type) for adults and mountain bikes for teenagers (a deposit of 100€ per bike will be required).

TENT RENTAL:
- Tents can be rented for a small fee, but a deposit will be required.

PETS :
- Pets are accepted, however, if you have a dog that poses a risk to children or other animals and you are not alone on the site, please keep them on a leash or muzzled to avoid any incidents. Thank you for your understanding ;-)

LAUNDRY:
- To avoid soil pollution, please do not wash clothes on the site, unless you use natural products (ash, ivy, etc.).
A launderette is available at the port, 5 minutes away by car (or 8 minutes by bike).
Clothes lines are available on site.

NATURISM:
- I've ticked the "naturism" option, so if you're alone on the site (no other people on other pitches), you're free to walk around in your "Eve" clothes.
There are no vis-vis, so you won't be disturbing any strollers either. (And if I walk by, it won't burn my eyes!) :D

The activities

BEACHES :
- The nearest beach (plage de la Voirie sud) is 6 minutes by bike, 20 minutes on foot or 5 minutes by car.
- La Boirie beach (with its beach huts, near the port) is 7 minutes by bike, 5 minutes by car or 25 minutes on foot.
- Sous-région beach (north of St Denis) is 9 minutes by bike, 6 minutes by car or 33 minutes on foot.

MARKET & TOWN CENTER:
- The market (every morning) and town center (numerous shops and mini-market) are 6mn by bike, 21mn on foot or 4mn by car.

PORT:
- The port of St Denis is 9mn by bike, 28mn on foot or 4mn by car. Here you'll find restaurants, a funfair, laundromat and boat departures for Ile d'Aix and La Rochelle.

LA BREE LES BAINS:
- The center of La Brée (market and shops) is about 8mn by bike, 5mn by car and 30mn on foot.

WATER SPORTS :
- several water sports are available in the vicinity, including sailing schools, surf schools, paddles, etc...

CHASSIRON:
- The Chassiron lighthouse is 15 minutes away by bike, 7 minutes by car or 54 minutes on foot.

Other things

WARNING! INFLATABLE MATTRESSES: If you're bringing a tent and an inflatable mattress, be sure to bring a mattress protector, as people have been known to burst their mattresses on bits of brambles lying around on the ground! If you have this type of mattress, make sure you have a protective cover underneath, just in case. I cannot be held responsible if this happens to you, hence this message of prevention. Thank you for your understanding.

NUISANCES:
- A busy road passes 150m away and some cars can be heard going fast, depending on the wind direction.
- You may be visited by mosquitoes, but this is normal in summer on Oléron.
- There are a few hens about 50m from the pitches, with a rooster that sings in the morning (a dwarf rooster, so less vocal than the big ones).
- Depending on wind direction, in the evening you can also hear the hustle and bustle of the campsites about 1km to the east.

Rules

TIMETABLE:
- There are no set times, but the site must be free by noon if another person is scheduled to arrive after you (if you want to leave later, or arrive earlier, you can park elsewhere on the site in the meantime).

CAMPING CARS, TRUCKS & large caravans:
- These vehicles cannot access the site, as the entrance is too narrow (converted vans and caravans of 5m or less pass through without problem).

SOME IMPORTANT RULES :
- Waste sorting is very restrictive on Oléron!
- There's a compost bin on the site where you can put all organic waste (if you have oyster shells or similar waste, you can put them on the path at the entrance to the site to try and plug up the ruts) :-)
- As for the yellow bags, there are free containers for plastic, paper and other recycling waste everywhere in the villages.
- On the other hand, if you still have household garbage left over after sorting, it gets very complicated because the public containers for this type of rubbish are locked with codes! I don't have a solution for this problem other than to find the few public containers still available, but if you sort your garbage well, you shouldn't have much left.
- Don't cut any trees or shrubs (unless you have my permission).
- Save water, don't let it run for nothing, it's hard to get back into the tanks.
Thank you all very much.

  • I'd like to thank Mat for his hospitality and responsiveness, I felt a real willingness to share that day. I really enjoyed my stopover on the island of Oléron, where I found peace and quiet and everything I needed. I wish you all the best!

  • No shade, but ideally located for cycling and at a totally fair price.
    Roots but efficient facilities
A word of warning about the branches at the entrance, not pruned enough to avoid scratching our van, about the non-hermetic water tanks, which are therefore mosquito breeding grounds, and about the Sunday morning hunters on the land next to our pitch.

  • Very good, Mat very responsive and accommodating. Great experience.

  • Great stay on Mat's quiet grounds, yet close to all cycling facilities. Total disconnection.
We won't hesitate to come back.

  • Thank you Mat for stopping by!
A chamalow evening with other campers
Minimalist site, but very decent for the price!

  • Superb campsite at Matt's, quiet and beautiful starry night, far from the crowded campsites on the coast. The campfire is a real plus, and the flawless communication made finding the site very easy: thanks for everything :D

  • Another great stay! The grounds are simple but fun and practical with a fire pit that is much appreciated by everyone! Mat is very welcoming and we thank him for helping us get started ????

  • Ideal place for nature lovers, very cool, zero stress.
    Very warm welcome, friendly hosts.
A restaurant is a 2-minute walk away and all shops are a 20-minute walk away.
    I'll be back with pleasure

  • We spent two very nice nights in a quiet area with a view of the fireworks on August 15. With 3 vans we had pitch number 2, big enough to create a little camp. Thanks Mat . Hope to see you and a llama on the side of the road!

  • Very nice plot, access to the beach and shops by bike ... Dry toilets and water reserve very appreciable, we spent a nice stay...

  • Despite its atypical access, the area is very quiet and secluded. We spent 2 beautiful nights. Thanks Mat

  • Very good location in the heart of nature
    Well-maintained path to the site.
Mat is very nice and accommodating.
We were able to rent bikes directly from his family in St Denis.
    We recommend +++

  • Mat is very welcoming and available.
    I recommend him!
    See you soon

  • Very nice night at Mat's place. Perfect location to stay on the island of Oleron. Good communication with Mat.
    Thanks and see you soon

  • A great place where everything is well thought out! Mat is very welcoming and available.

  • Nice little stay on the island of Oleron. It's true that the location lacks a little shade (especially at this time!) and there are thorns on the ground but all that is mentioned on the ad so no surprise. But the big plus here is the friendly space around the fire. Perfect to chat and meet other homecampers!
The library is nice too! :)
There are still a few things to improve for it to be perfect and it will surely be the case in a few times, but it's already a good spot!

  • Very good stay, filled with beautiful meetings and evenings to remake the world around the fire. The corner around the fire encourages conviviality and this is a very good thing.
Attention in case of strong heat, there is no shade

  • Very pleasant location and well thought out to limit our ecological footprint! Great job!

  • Hello,
We spent a pleasant stay, very quiet ground with all the necessary at disposal: table, chairs, parasol, barbecue, solar shower and dry toilet.
Thanks to Mat and his family ????. I recommend it.

  • Always a pleasure to come to Mat's place, new facilities that make the stay even better :) thanks and see you soon!

  • A very welcoming host, a super quiet place where taking a shower while looking at the stars is a beautiful experience. I recommend Mat's hospitality and kindness.

  • We didn't meet Mat, but he really reacts very friendly and quickly! Quit place to stay. Nice facility to charge your phone (we missed electricity for our cool box, during this summer it was needed :-))

  • I had a great stay at Mat's place. The calm is assured: we sleep very well! and Mat has done everything to make the place welcoming. He is available and benevolent.
The cycle track is very close.
    I recommend it.

  • Very well landscaped, very quiet, and very welcoming owners! I recommend

  • Well located camp!
Mat is clear in his explanations

  • Mat is very nice and welcoming.
The terrain is great too, only 3 pitches with a solar shower and dry toilets, the best!

  • Beautiful place and Mat is very welcoming.
Bring a bike for travel, it will be a plus.

  • We had a pleasant night. Thank you for the welcome!

  • I have no complaints about Mat and the grounds. I had an excellent stay. The facilities are perfect, made with great care, respectful of the environment, and with the desire to please the guests. The pitches also have the necessary equipment (tables, chairs, barbecue). The site is very quiet. A big thank you Mat, I had a rejuvenating stay there and I can't wait to come back! I recommend it!
