Built-in the late 1940s as a three-season hunting and fishing lodge Elk Lodge hosted many family vacations on its 20 acres of high pasture plateau up at 9,200 feet within the Carson National Forest. The plateau and surrounding hillsides are populated by Elk, deer, bears, mountain lions, coyotes, and bobcats and the Rio Pueblo headwaters flow through the property chockfull of brown and rainbow trout. There also is a horse coral, stables, and tack room on the lower/back level of the property by the stream. Over the course of the next 60 years, the property has transferred time three times and has also been known as "Walton's Mountain" and "Tejas Mountain Lodge." Now owned by former property manager Stephen G. Barr , retired real estate broker, appraiser & developer, and social media publisher with plans for complete renovation and expansion to include nightly vacation rentals, glamping sites reactivation of the stables, EV charging station, and a yet-to-be determined type food service.

The lodge sits to the right through the gate then the 5 cabins are arranged in a circle to the left leaving a 1 acre circular center area with a large fire pit in the center perfect for tent camping. Then there

The sanitary facilities

Full bath with shower in the basement of the lodge along with free washer and dryer. Free wifi at 250mpbs but no cell service unless you set your phone to go through wifi. Water is available to fill jugs from the bathroom and several hose bibs. We are installing the new 400amp electric service but it won't be completed until summer 2023.

The activities

Numerous hiking trails all over the immediate area, trout fishing via the Rio Pueblo that runs through the middle of the property, two 18-hole disc golf courses within 9 miles, and Sipapu Ski and Summer Resort located just 6 miles west. White water rafting down the Rio Grande less than 35 miles.

Other things

So many stars out up here 30 mi from city lights it's not funny. Full milky way on a clear night. We are certified sustainable by UNESCO and plastic and pesticide free.

Quiet time is 10:00 pm, dogs must be tethered or on a leash, at all times as mine Buddy loves campers and kids but with take on dogs 3x his size and has been seen to run off packs of Coyotes by himself. I live at the center of the property in cabin # 2 and my best friend I the Sheriff so if everybody's chill so am I and you are free to smoke or ingest anything you may bring with you but only handle your sh#t. We are a 420 legal state and facility.

Possibility of breakfast ($5 / person)

Five buck breakfast every morning of varying menu items but count on bacon, eggs, hash browns, toast coffee, milk, dry cereal, and yogurt with specials as we get them. Kids 4 and under always free.

Tent ready

With advance notice and we will be adding 6 -10 glamping sites on wooden platforms by Summe 2023.
