Binevenagh is a mountain just off the north coast. It overlooks Limavady, Bellarena, Benone beach, Downhill and Castlerock. It covers an area of more than 10 kilometres and its highest point reaches an impressive height of 385 metres. It is said to be named after a Celtic chieftain, Foibhne, whose son was also named Foibhne. Foibhne Junior is said to have been killed on the mountain, which led the inhabitants to name it Binn Foibhne. It was later translated into English, and became Binevenagh.
