What to visit in Valence?

The city of Valence has just over 61,000 inhabitants and is considered to be the "gateway to the South", between Vercors and Provence, which makes it a very popular tourist destination.
The city offers travellers a rich cultural heritage, due to the Roman presence during the Antiquity period or the passage of historical figures such as Bonaparte; there are remarkable buildings such as the collegiate church of Saint-Barnard, and the old town has many squares and monuments to discover: the Saint-Apollinaire cathedral in Romanesque style; the 16th century Maison des Têtes and its Renaissance facade with its sculpted heads; the art and archaeology museum with its 35 rooms spread over 5 levels; the 13th century Draper's house and its medieval architecture; the church of Saint-Jean-Baptiste perched at the top of the city; the Place des Clercs surrounded by its houses with their colourful facades; the many "ribs", stairs that lead to the upper city and are very characteristic of the city. You will also see the music kiosk on the Champ de Mars esplanade, the Jouvet park and its 7 hectares where various species grow, decorated with a lake and a rose garden, the monumental fountain, or the Philolaos water tower. The canals are also a pleasant place to walk with their paths lined with willows and poplars, in addition to the many green spaces that dot the city, including Jean-Perdrix Park, the largest of all.
Gourmets and wine lovers will also not be disappointed: they will be able to taste some specialities in the city's restaurants, such as Valencian Dragée, and will drink wines from the Crozes-Hermitage PDO!
