What to visit in Saint-Brieuc?

In the city, you will discover an old town center, dominated by the Cathedral of Saint-Etienne, in Romanesque and Gothic style, on the Place du Martray. The latter is a testimony to the evangelisation of the city since the 6th century, and to its concern for defence, worthy of a fortified castle! You can admire the altarpiece of the 18th century Annunciation, an Anglo-Norman style choir from the 14th century and a 19th century organ with beautifully carved woodwork. The church is inserted in the old districts, those of the half-timbered houses, some of which are classified as historic monuments.
Other must-see visits are the 19th century halls where the market is held on Wednesdays and Saturdays; the Place du Lin and the surrounding streets where medieval and Renaissance remains are to be found, such as the Maison de la Barrière or the Hôtel des Ducs de Bretagne; the Cesson tower, built in 1395, of which only ruins remain; the Musée d'Art et d'Histoire.
If you feel like strolling through nature, you can take the customs officers' path, or walk on the beach of Les Rosaires, take a stroll in the marina or in the park of Les Promenades. Several festive events also punctuate the year in the city: Italian Film Week in January, monthly literary meetings, African music festival in April, the briochine strides (running on the quays) in October are some examples.
