What to visit in the city of Chartres?

Once you get to Chartres, you will be able to discover the cobbled streets of its old town, the Parc des Bords de l'Eure with its animal park, the Museum of Agriculture or the Museum of Natural Sciences and Prehistory, which offer interactive workshops for the youngest. However it is obviously the cathedral that steals the show and deserves your full attention: classified as a UNESCO heritage site, this masterpiece can easily rival Notre-Dame de Paris, thanks to its 140 metres long and 37 metres high, its 11th century crypt, its superb and countless stained glass windows, and its Bishopric's garden with its labyrinth.
Also worth visiting are the Saturday morning market in Place Billard, the flower market in the place du Cygne, and the Picassiette house, which is surprising because it is decorated with fragments of earthenware, glass and porcelain. Don't miss the illuminations of "Chartres en lumière" at nightfall, which highlight the city in a very pretty way, and don't forget to taste the local speciality, macaroons!
