An important landmark monument of the city of Nîmes is the Maison Carrée, a superb late 1st century Roman temple with columns surmounted by Corinthian capitals. The city of Nîmes also has a Fine Arts Museum in which French and foreign paintings from the 14th to the 19th century are on display.
