Description

IN THE HEART OF NATURE, HALFWAY BETWEEN WILDERNESS CAMPING AND ORGANIZED CAMPSITE
The site is ideal for observing the sky, with no light pollution...and a superb view of the village of Le Tholy...below...

Hello, my first name is Gilbert, I'm 75. I live alone in an old Vosges farmhouse at an altitude of 700 m, in the middle of nature, with a view I can't get enough of... I'm someone who likes to meet people and exchange ideas, while respecting each other. My farmhouse has been renovated with respect for traditional architecture, combining simplicity, authenticity and comfort.
Just a stone's throw from the highest village in the department at almost 900 m, Haut du Tôt and its now-famous nature photo exhibition "Les sentiers de la photos".
You'll also be 10/15 minutes from Lac de Gérardmer and 35/40 minutes from Col de la Schlutch, gateway to Alsace and its vineyards...30/35 minutes from Bol d'air in La Bresse...an hour from Parc de Fraispertuis.
Very close to the Tendon waterfalls and other nearby waterfalls, la Pissoire, le saut du Bouchot, gorges de Crosery...
You can set off on foot, by road bike or mountain bike, without having to take your car back... It's good for your health and our shared planet.
I'm also surrounded by good restaurants, without unnecessary luxury.

The setting

Wide open spaces, meadows, woods... quiet, on the edge of a small mountain road, not very busy and very easy to get to.
View of the village of Le Tholy, probably the only village built into the hillside, at the junction of the roads linking Remiremont and Epinal in the direction of Gérérdmet, Colmar... the others are built at the bottom of the valley...
Magnificent sunsets in front of us...
You'll probably come across a roe deer, and perhaps a stag that's quietly settling in.

Two new platforms, see photos of their construction, overlooking the valley, with the village of Le Tholy below.

    Thanks Gilbert

  • Great stay at Gilbert's! Perched on a hill with a magnificent view, a perfect welcome. A true haven of peace to which I'm sure I'll return ????

  • Many thanks to Gilbert for his warm welcome. A magnificent and authentic place, in the middle of nature and with a breathtaking view. Unfortunately, the storms and heavy rain forced us to pack up early, but we'll definitely be back. Yours sincerely

  • I shouldn't advertise because then it'll be too crowded... But the place is peaceful and beautiful. 2-3 platforms have been made for campers (but don't forget the parasol!). We were welcomed with such kindness and goodwill that afterwards there was a queue to invite him to the apero!
In short, a wonderful meeting and a top-notch stay. We'll be back!

  • Very good night, Gilbert was very welcoming and super nice, responds to request.
The site is perfect for camping
    Thanks again for the night

  • Gilbert gave me a very warm welcome. The site is very quiet and ideal for pitching a tent.
It's also a perfect place for astronomy enthusiasts!

  • Superb
    A wonderful meeting

  • We had a great stay at Gilbert's! He's a very lovely and friendly host. Everything was comfortable, and the camper spots have a beautiful view of a valley.

  • We came for 3 nights. It was perfect. Gilbert is a very welcoming man, with good advice for visiting his region. We felt like we were camping in the wilderness, but with a minimum of amenities. The view is magnificent. Thank you Gilbert for sharing your home.

  • We particularly appreciated Gilbert's welcome, attentiveness and simplicity. The surrounding countryside is splendid and there are numerous hiking trails. We're very happy with our first HomeCamper experience.

  • ???? We're Jessica, 38, and Steve, 50. We travel in a Defender with a tent on the roof. We love nature, peace and quiet, hiking and mountain biking.
We wanted to spend a weekend in the Vosges but all the campsites were full...

By chance, I clicked on a home camper link...
Whaouuuu, but I didn't know... the best of the best, a private individual, offered us his land... so gooooo...
We chose Gilbert and what a choice !!!!
His kindness is unquestionable. We had a great time with him. He even came to have dessert with us twice.
    Great ????
From his place, we went mountain biking (beautiful, well-marked trails).
The downside was that we had to leave again...
We'll be back, that's for sure.
Gilbert, we thank you for a memorable weekend.
    See you soon!
    Jess and Steve

  • Thank you Mr Gilbert!
We have also appreciated your availability and it is with great pleasure that we will return to you.
    Félicie loved it!
    au plaisir

  • Unfortunately, we do not know French and Gilbert no German, nevertheless, it worked out with the communication. We were welcomed nicely, his house was always open to us. Just this great trust in his guests has touched me very much ! Merci !

  • Gilbert is a perfect host, very pleasant, not imposing, which is nice for us. His land is beautiful and well located at the start of hiking, near the two main cities. His breakfast was also perfect.
    100% recommended

  • Gilbert is a very friendly person. The view of the valley from his site is magnificent.
Thank you very much for your warm welcome.

  • Gilbert is a very friendly man who helped us to park our large campervan. That was quite a challenge ;-) but it turned out good. The view from the hill was really beautiful in a peaceful setting.

  • A warm welcome from Gilbert, who knows how to be both present (if necessary) and discreet.
Showers, toilets and a well-provided breakfast (optional) in the home.
Very quiet place, with a lovely view.

  • Very warm welcome
Very pleasant location with a magnificent view of the valley
    Peace and nature
    We recommend

  • Great place for a great welcome, highly recommended.

  • Gilbert is very welcoming and it is a super place to spend the night!

  • Gilbert made us feel very welcome. He's a very friendly host and you can tell he's used to entertaining. We had free access to all amenities and the pitch for our roof tent was comfortable with a beautiful view of the village. We'd definitely recommend it!

  • Gilbert made us feel very welcome; he's a pleasant, attentive person who takes the time to talk with you.
The place is beautiful and allows you to do some great hiking without taking your car.
We have a 6m van, and the simple basic wedges aren't enough to compensate for the slope of the ground, so despite Gilbert's help and his wooden wedges, we had trouble setting up.
There is a flat pitch, but it was already occupied during our stay, and another should be built soon.

  • Great meeting and chat, magnificent view, absolute peace and quiet, excellent breakfast, what more could you ask for? Go back!

  • It was a pleasure to spend two days with Gilbert. Firstly, because Gilbert is so friendly that you immediately feel at home, and all you want to do is stay and chat, and discover all the things that make him tick. Then there's the great location: a small grassy terrace on the slope, with an unobstructed view, superb sunsets and birds and cicadas / insects singing all night long. We're just a few steps from the house, where we share a toilet and bathroom with Gilbert and any other guests - no worries there. And finally, Gilbert served us an excellent breakfast, copious and varied. In short, I can only recommend stopping off at his place! Two possible drawbacks with a van: very hot, sunny weather (little or no shade, but at 700 m it's certainly refreshing in the evenings) or very rainy weather (I might have had a bit of respect if I'd gone down to the field...). In such cases, I'd advise you to ask Gilbert for his advice. But otherwise, go for it!
And to top it all off, we were able to do two very nice hikes without moving the van: the little badger trail in the evening when we arrived, and a nice tour to the Pissoire waterfall and Haut-du-Tôt the next day. The signposting is very good and it's very quiet and varied.

  • Beautiful setting and great welcome from Gilbert, what more could you ask for.
Gilbert is very friendly, helpful and respectful. His house is typical and clean.
    An address to remember!

  • We were warmly welcomed and instructed by Gilbert. The land is fantastic, quiet with a beautiful view. We explored the area by mountain bike and enjoyed the sunshine. I would love to come back.

  • Even before my trip or my arrival in Le Tholy, the communication with Gilbert was simple and fluid, and it was always the case once there. We felt as if we were being welcomed by a member of the family: that is to say in all simplicity and without fuss!
The setting is beautiful, Gilbert's house a real cocoon, and the view breathtaking. But what I will remember most of this short stay will be the exchanges with Gilbert, or the breakfast that he concocted for us and that allowed us to start the day gently. My regret was to stay only one night on the spot!
I wish you a very good continuation, dear Gilbert!

  • Gilbert is a very nice host with an amazing garden. The stay was wonderful and the location is worth the ride! Only Google maps needs to update it's streets, coming from the west or south works while north east is very hard.

  • We had a very pleasant stay with Gilbert. We particularly appreciated the magnificent view of the valley from our camper and the dining room where he served us breakfast.
He gave us good advices for walking in this region we fell in love with.
He provided us with water and electricity.
    We will certainly come back.

  • Gilbert is a very friendly home camper with lots of conversation. The breakfast was very good and the view on the Tholy open.

  • Super stay at Gilbert's, at the top, nothing to complain about.
    Thank you for the welcome.

  • Mein Frau und ich hatten eine tolle Zeit an diesem wunderschönen Ort. Gilbert hat uns sehr herzlich und freundlich empfangen. All is best - we will go back again!

My wife and I had a great time in this beautiful place. Gilbert welcomed us with great warmth and kindness. Everything is perfect - we will be back with great pleasure!

  • Even if we arrived a little late Gilbert knew how to welcome us in the best way.
Breakfast on the terrace in the sun with a breathtaking view of Le Tholy. Thanks to Gilbert for his kindness and his sharing of tips about the Vosges region.
    See you soon!

  • Very good welcome from Gilbert, full of attention.
    To be recommended!

  • Beautiful view and a very nice and welcoming host. Perfect!

  • I had an excellent stay with Gilbert. Gilbert is a mine of information on his region; he is helpful, loves people, contact, exchanges but also knows how to leave the intimacy of his "guests".
    Thank you Gilbert.

  • Mr.Gilbert, a very nice host, very pleasant. An easy contact, very quickly appreciated. It is good to live with you.
Not far from everything, very well placed for my part, a real experience in the middle of nature.
I would come back as soon as possible in any case :)

  • We stayed 3 nights at Gilbert's place during our vacation in the Vosges. We loved this stay: Gilbert is very welcoming without ever being intrusive, his land is large and the view is magnificent, he gave us access to the sanitary facilities (shared with the B&B) which were great! We warmly recommend this place without hesitation!

  • very friendly host for all his guests.
Only one good place for a mobilhome of 7m, the rest of the nice place is up- or downhill and you have to pick very carefully your place to be horizontally.
The view and environment is super.

  • Very nice and friendly welcome, Gilbert took care of the size of my camping car because the access can be tricky. The view is splendid on the valley and the village. Beautiful ballades on the surrounding plateau. Beautiful stage

  • Gilbert is a very warm host, full of humor and kindness. We spent a very good and friendly evening with our friendly neighbors! Thanks again for all the sharing and generosity! If you book a night here, you will find peace and quiet, we recommend this place full of charm

  • The stay at Gilbert was very nice, the view magnificent, total tranquility and a wonderful breakfast!!A nice humorous host in addition

  • Gilbert is very attentive. In a superb setting, in the peace and quiet with a breathtaking view. A fresh, organic, abundant breakfast. Attention for the campers, there is only one flat place for a big tent near the electricity. Think of reserving it.

  • We spent a good evening in a quiet place with a great view. Sunset on the valley in more.
    Small place to recommend.

  • Gilbert is the friendliest and most helpful host I can imagine. Interested in sourdough? No problem, he knows someone who can tell you all about bread and the best mill. Are you interested in regional cheeses? His buddy will show you how it's done.
The area we were at cannot be surpassed in terms of sunset quality and that's why we will definitely be back. Maybe for the mushroom season.

  • We spent a magnificent night alone in a meadow on the hillside with a view of the valley and the opposite side. The decor is simply sumptuous.

We had the joy of meeting Gilbert, a welcoming host, devoted and full of values dear to the nomadic life in this beautiful region.

Convenience level: toilets, shower and breakfast that we strongly recommend.
    Local products, organic,... a delight.

We will keep the address for a next time!

  • Beautiful place, made exceptional by the presence of Gilbert !
We were lucky to have the visit of deer during the sunset.
Thanks again to Gilbert for his warm and caring welcome. We will come back for sure !

  • Gilbert is a very friendly person, and very hospitable. We really enjoyed camping for a whole weekend on his land. The setting was beautiful, a great view and an almost religious calm. We will certainly come back.

  • Gilbert's welcome was superb. The spot is in the middle of nature, the forest behind us and a vast meadow in front of us giving us a great view...!
We had breakfast in an authentic setting, excellent local products. Excellent. Gilbert is very attentive to his guests. A great exchange, a great memory! Thank you Gilbert
