Description

Come and reconnect with nature in a field near the sea. Wanting to preserve biodiversity, a large part is left in its natural state, a plot is reserved for gardening and my personal use.
Located in the heart of the Val de Saire and not far from Cherbourg-en-Cotentin, Bretteville en Saire nicely combines countryside and coastline.

Ideal for Roots, bivouac, wild road trip, vanlife

The setting

Isolated land, in the middle of nature, surrounded by trees and wild hedges. Access by dirt road linking 2 hamlets. The surrounding fields are regularly occupied by cows, sheep and horses.
Close to the sea (visible on the north side of the land) and the beaches.
Silent, with just the sounds of the countryside, birds singing, tractors and small planes passing by (Maupertuis airfield).
The beach of Bretteville is at 2km, it is authorized to the animals held in leash (as many in the surroundings)

The spots

No marked out site. The land is flat and surrounded by hedges and trees. You just have to respect the plantations and the animals of the surrounding fields.
The land is sunny.
Access by dirt road

The sanitary facilities

No sanitary facilities, no water or electricity. I regularly bring back jerry cans of water.
Otherwise at 300m in the hamlet, the water of the wash house (to take at the exit of pipe) is usable for the toilet and the dishes, even for the kitchen if boiled.
There are also sanitary facilities with outdoor shower at the beach. (2km) which are practical.

The activities

Near Cherbourg en Cotentin, the city of the sea, the landing beaches, Barfleur, Saint Vast la Hougue, Sainte Mère Église
Whatever your tastes and the weather you will find something to occupy you: beaches (varied and never crowded), hiking trails, cultural heritage, castles, botanical parks, nature reserves, summer animations (La Rue Bucolique, proposed every August at the Tourp manor, for example). and water activities, aquatic centers...
Hike along the customs path, surf on the west coast of the Cotentin, in Siouville-Hague or Biville, try sand yachting at Utah Beach, enjoy the calm of a canoe trip on one of the rivers in Saint-Sauveur-le-Vicomte or in the Cotentin Marshes, or embark on a sea kayak in Collignon, Cherbourg-en-Cotentin

Situation
  • Home campers beware.
Gaëlle warned us after accepting our 7-night booking that she only had time to mow the site quickly. When we arrived, there was only one clear alley facing the entrance, so we had no choice but to pitch our big tent. Its mess is made of canvas that flaps in the wind. The rest of the site is a field of weeds in seed.
As soon as we arrived, we cordially explained to Gaëlle our disappointment and wish to cancel our stay. She cashed in the 70€ without ever agreeing to reimburse us. This is called theft.
Note: We are used to trekking and wild camping.

  • It was a little hard to find the location without pictures, but once we got there it was just great.
The post with the little colored signs is a very good landmark.
The installation in the field is just great, shower, toilet, small garden.

    We had a magical time.
Located at a quarter of an hour from Cherbourg.
