Description

In our haven of peace in Huismes, near Chinon and 1.5 km from the Loire à Vélo itinerary, we offer a few camping pitches in a pasture bordered by a stream.
You'll be awakened by the sound of birdsong, or by the ewes and Pepa, our sometimes (often) mischievous donkey.

The setting

A mill with its wheel spinning at the end of the world, far from civilization.
The sound of water, greenery, a few domestic animals (sheep, donkeys, geese, chickens... when the fox will let us have some) or "wild" ones (coypu, beavers, herons, frogs, squirrels, dragonflies, kingfishers, etc.)... life.

The spots

The pitches are located in a meadow beside the stream.
We cannot accommodate camper vans or caravans, and cars cannot access the camping area (small bridge to cross).
They remain parked at the entrance to the property (wheelbarrow available for transferring equipment (120 m), if necessary).
The camping area is in the shade from mid-afternoon, which brings coolness in the evening, and is sunny one hour after sunrise, for a bright awakening...
When our pipistrelles are unable to consume all the mosquitoes at their disposal, we can lend you essential oil diffusers to keep these unpleasant insects away from your tent.

The sanitary facilities

A "classic" toilet and shower are permanently available to travelers, as well as access to drinking water.
The installation of a solar shower and dry toilets at the entrance to the "camping zone" is planned... as soon as I have a few days to devote to it.

The amenities

Travelers have access to covered snacking areas in the mill courtyard, as well as to the barbecue.
Near the sanitary facilities, we provide a refrigerator, microwave oven, hotplate, toaster, coffee maker and kettle, crockery and pots and pans, as well as sockets for recharging phones, tablets, PCs and bikes.
A few games are available to keep young and old busy... frogs, ping-pong table and rackets, shuffleboard, board games.
A fully equipped workshop is available for minor repairs to bikes or camping equipment.
We also have a small "emergency grocery" for hikers who are too tired to go out again.
In case of bad weather (which is so rare), the "Hangar" will offer you its roof to eat, write, read, play... in the dry.
And in the event of very bad weather (never or almost never), we can also open "La salle aux meules", especially if there are little ones to occupy (board games... TV DVD player).

The activities

Lovely walks and cycle rides around the mill. Birdwatching in the nearby marsh. Tastings with local producers.
Within a 25 km radius, you can visit Chinon, Fontevrault, Candes St Martin, Rigny-Ussé, Langeais, Saumur, Azay le Rideau... among others.
Accrobranche at St Benoit la Forêt.
Canoeing and paddling on the Indre, Vienne and Loire rivers.
Guinguette 1.5 km away (closed on Mondays and Tuesdays) and friendly restaurant 3 km away (closed on Sunday and Wednesday evenings).
Basic shops in Huismes (3 km) and Avoine (5 km).

.

Rules

Please respect the site and leave your rubbish in the containers at the entrance to the property.
Don't make (too much) noise in the camping area, if you're not alone.
ATTENTION. A water mill remains a dangerous place for small children, who must always remain under the supervision of their parents or an adult.

Extras

Tent ready

We have a Quechua 2-second and 2-seater for emergency use (if the weather is too bad for an early start, for example).
And even a three-seater of the same metal not far away...
for
For the vans, in view of the spectacular increase in EDF rates, we are asking for a contribution of €3 per day for the electrical connection. As soon as we produce our own kilowatts, we'll adjust these rates...

  • Once again, a huge thank you to Marie and Dominique and their children for their welcome, their generosity and their kindness towards my children and myself. Surely one of the most beautiful encounters of my cycling trip. All in an incredible setting full of beautiful energy. I recommend it without hesitation, and if I'm ever in the area again, I'll stop off in this haven of peace.

  • Perfect stay!
I highly recommend these very welcoming hosts who have thought of every detail to perfect their welcome, in addition to being friendly and available.
Thank you both for your welcome

  • Excellent welcome, we recommend this place.
Dominique loves to share his passion.
    Bravo

  • Dominique made me feel so welcome, he did everything he could to make me feel at ease!
I hope to come back on a sunny day to enjoy this friendly, natural setting.
Thanks again Dominique for your welcome and your kindness.

  • A place we fell in love with and still do. A corner of paradise tucked away in the Veronese countryside that, when you find it even by chance, is worth a visit before you plant your aunt. Thank you so much for your time!

  • Sublime place, very good quiet and convivial time.
We spent a great week at Dominique and Marie's, everything was as described on the site and very clean.
    Thank you very much.

  • A great meeting in a sublime setting!

  • Everything conforms to the description and photos (except Dominique's, who is much more pleasant than on his profile!).
We only regret not having been able to stay longer to chat with Marie and Dominique. But we intend to come back and do just that, and sit back in the swing to listen to the water trickle.
An ideal place for a short stopover, since we found everything we needed in the hangar.

  • We weren't able to meet Dominique, as a mechanical problem with our vehicle forced us to cancel our visit.
But we're not giving up, and as we often travel from the North to the Dordogne, and vice versa, we'll no doubt be passing through Dominique's home one of these days!
    It's only a postponement.

  • Very nice, quiet place. Very well equipped, clean

  • We stayed with Dominique and Marie for one night during our Loire à Vélo tour.
A very pleasant time, a friendly welcome, a real moment of sharing. Dominique and Marie welcomed us to their mill, with its superb grounds, in a calm, shady setting. A wonderful discovery and meeting. We look forward to seeing you again.

  • Best homecamper experience ever! Dominique and his wife are excellent hosts! They took great care of us. The children were able to enjoy the river, Ping Pong and the board games available. I'd also like to thank the hostess for the cleanliness of the premises, because it's not everywhere that you see such clean sanitary facilities. In short, our favorite ♥️

  • Great hosts and setting. Hard to find better.

  • It was a first for us to go camping with 6 people in a quiet, magnificent dream location. The welcome was perfect, Dominique and his wife are extremely friendly hosts. The place is perfect for a short or long stay, full of activities and beautiful monuments to discover around. Our daughters ( x4) were delighted with their stay and I think we will repeat the experience.
Thank you both and of course Samba thanks you too.

  • A place that's as close to paradise as you can get: a renovated old mill in a green setting away from busy roads.
Top-notch amenities: well-equipped kitchen area (coffee maker, cutlery, microwave...), impeccable sanitary facilities and plenty of little corners in the garden for campers to enjoy (for a lovely aperitif, for example ????).
Exceptionally kind and helpful hosts, eager to share the treasures of their region.
A place not to be missed, to which we shall return with great pleasure ☀️

  • Thank you so much! For everything, your availability, your welcome, your generosity, your sharing of experiences... We feel so at home with you, everything is there, nothing is missing :)

  • A heavenly place to recharge your batteries
With charming owners open to the world.
    Don't hesitate to contact us.

  • Very warm welcome from Dominique and his wife. Everything is there: conveniences, authenticity, calm. Thank you very much. It was our first visit to the site and we really enjoyed it.

  • Many thanks to Marie and Dominique for welcoming us to their little paradise. It's a beautiful place, calm and cool, which is much appreciated after driving in the heat. Dominique is also very good at giving advice on discovering the beautiful roads around here.
What's more, it's very well located, with all the tourist attractions in the area - Rigny Ussé, Candes St Martin, Fontevreau - just a short drive away.
    I highly recommend it.

  • Everything went smoothly, I'm very happy with this stay where I felt in perfect osmosis with Nature. Thank you to Dominique for her kindness. The setting is welcoming, pretty and peaceful, perfect for recharging your batteries! And I discovered some adorable geese!

  • A wonderful place!
Hosts with the small care, accomodating, attentive. An idyllic setting!
    We had a wonderful stay

  • We loved our stay at Dominique's house. A real corner of paradise with a nice welcome from Dominique.
If you pass in the area, not to be missed!

  • We spent three fantastic days thanks to the hospitality of Dominique and Marie. Our hosts have a great sense of hospitality and their garden is restful, quiet and well maintained. All amenities are available. We highly recommend it, and we will probably come back.

  • We spent two wonderful nights in a tent at Dominique and his wife's house, who gave us a very warm welcome! The mill is a beautiful property in the middle of nature, very quiet and with everything you need to be comfortable (shower, toilet, drinking water, fridge, garden table, etc.). We recommend the mill with closed eyes, and will come back with great pleasure. Thanks again to Dominique and his wife for their welcome!

  • The setting is superb, and Dominique and his wife have a rare kindness and availability. Great moment.

  • We spent an excellent evening at Dominique's and his partner's house: These 2 available and friendly hosts gave us a warm welcome.
As for the setting, it is particularly beautiful and pleasant: The magnificent mill of Fromentière is an environment both soothing and exotic where we lived a privileged experience.
In the afternoon, we were able to drop off our bicycle luggage before visiting the castle of CHINON located about 6 km away.
The village of HUISMES (3 km away) is worth discovering, especially a beautiful viewpoint located above the village and an excellent delicatessen where we had a memorable picnic.
I and my two children would be delighted to return to the Fromentière mill, one of the most beautiful stops on our cycling trip.
