Other things
The Vézelay route is one of the major Jacobean routes, used by some 1,000 pilgrims every year from northern Europe (Holland, Belgium, Germany) before entering France and reaching Vézelay, one of the major departures identified for the French routes.
The route enters Périgord via La Coquille, crossing Périgueux, capital of the Dordogne, before reaching Sainte Foy la Grande and the Gironde. Since the 12th century and the mention of Périgueux and Saint Front in the "Guide du Pèlerin", the town has become an essential stopover for pilgrims. To achieve this, an effort has been made to walk as closely as possible to the "historic" route, while offering pilgrims the most direct and safest routes.
